Natural Path to Better Pet Health

Tip of the Month

Repelling Ticks Naturally

First and foremost, quality nutrition and supplementation will help your pet maintain a strong immune system, which in turn will make him less susceptible to both internal and external parasites.
Organic apple cider vinegar is a wonderful natural way to repel ticks. It can be used full strength. Simply apply a small amount to a damp wash cloth or paper towel and wipe your pet's coat.

Or, after bathing, it can be used as a final rinse. Use equal parts water and vinegar. Do not rinse; let air dry.

Add 1 tablespoon organic cider vinegar per quart to your pet's drinking water. Start slowly and gradually increase to a tablespoon. Added gradually in small increments allows the digestive tract and your pet's taste buds to adjust.
Combine 1 part apple cider vinegar, 1 part Avon Skin So Soft Oil and 2 parts water in a spray bottle. Shake well before applying and spritz on coat before heading out. For the face area spray on a damp paper towel and wipe on.
Pick up a tick remover at your local pet store for removal of any embedded ticks. There are several on the market: Tick Nipper, Ticked Off, etc. Do not use your fingers.

Remember, regardless of what type of tick repellent you are using, the best prevention is inspection. Check your dog or cat thoroughly and every time they come in from the outside. With smooth coated dogs such as Labs, Dobies, Rotties, etc., wipe them down with a damp wash cloth when they come in, check the cloth frequently, discard ticks in the toilet. For long coated breeds like Goldens, Shepherds, Collies, etc. use a fine slicker brush, (the ticks get caught in the teeth), again check frequently, use a comb to "empty" the brush and flush.
